ChIPs Network

How ChIPs Network scales chapter engagement across a global community

ChIPs Network uses Hivebrite to bring together 10,000 members, 33 chapters, and more than 200 chapter leaders in one connected community. Chapters can run local events and discussions in their own spaces, while the central team supports the wider network without becoming a bottleneck.

Association for Project Management

How ChIPs Network scales chapter engagement across a global community

The Association for Project Management used Hivebrite to launch a mentoring program that enrolled 229 mentors and created 139 active mentoring pairs in less than 10 months. With 90% of participants recommending the program, APM shows how an association can use its community to support professional development and create lasting member value.

Frequently Asked Questions

Several community platforms support association use cases, but they differ in focus. Hivebrite is built to support associations that want to bring member engagement, events, groups or chapters, directories, memberships, professional development, and community analytics into one branded platform. It helps associations create year-round member experiences rather than relying only on email, annual conferences, or a traditional membership database.
Other platforms worth evaluating include Higher Logic and Glue Up, particularly for associations prioritizing member communications, events, membership administration, or CRM-related workflows. The best choice depends on your association’s structure, existing systems, and the member experiences you want to support.
Yes. Hivebrite can connect with association management systems including iMIS, Fonteva, NetForum, Blackbaud NXT, and MemberClicks.
The direction of data flow depends on the AMS and the agreed integration scope. For iMIS, Hivebrite supports two-way synchronization, allowing selected member and membership data to move between iMIS and Hivebrite.
Connections can be delivered through a managed integration, Hivebrite’s REST API, or middleware such as Make or Zapier, depending on the systems and workflows involved. Hivebrite’s API supports both one-way and two-way data flows. Not every AMS connection is a native, pre-built connector, so the available fields, sync frequency, matching rules, and implementation approach should be confirmed during discovery.

Migrating to Hivebrite involves a seamless, well-structured process supported by our experienced migration team. We've successfully transitioned numerous prestigious associations from their legacy platforms, including CASE, American Bar Association (ABA), TESOL International Association, Smith Bucklin, American Welding Society, Water Environment Federation, American Physical Therapy Association, Association for Financial Professionals and many more. Our approach includes comprehensive data assessment, custom migration planning, automated data import tools, and thorough data cleaning. With dedicated migration specialists experienced in transitions from platforms like Higher Logic, MemberClicks, and YourMembership, we ensure minimal disruption during the 4-12 week migration timeline. Throughout the process, we provide extensive training and post-migration support to guarantee data integrity and platform stability, making your transition to Hivebrite as smooth as possible.

Hivebrite can support chapter and committee structures by configuring them as Groups or sub-communities within the wider community. Associations can:
  • Create dedicated spaces for chapters, committees, or other member segments
  • Assign group-level admins with scoped permissions
  • Give each group its own discussions, content, resources, events, and communications
  • Share selected resources and events across groups while keeping headquarters visibility
  • Assign members to groups manually or automatically based on predefined criteria
  • Track group membership, activity, engagement, and event participation
  • Use global and group-level permissions to balance central oversight with local autonomy

This structure allows headquarters to maintain a consistent member experience while giving chapter and committee leaders responsibility for the areas they manage. Hivebrite’s Groups module supports regional chapter use cases, group-level administration, targeted communications, engagement tracking, and event coordination.

For more advanced reporting or synchronization with an association management system, CRM, or other external platform, Hivebrite supports API-based and data integration packages. These connections are scoped according to the systems and data involved rather than provided as a universal native AMS integration.

Hivebrite excels at facilitating meaningful connections between association members:

  • Advanced member directory with powerful filtering capabilities
  • Expertise tagging and skill endorsements
  • Interest-based groups that form organically around shared topics
  • Geographic proximity search to find nearby members
  • AI-powered member recommendations based on profile similarities
  • Direct messaging for private communications
  • Activity feeds showing member contributions and engagement
  • Member-initiated mentorship matching
  • Professional background search capabilities

These networking features dramatically increase the value of membership by facilitating the peer connections that drive professional growth and engagement.

Hivebrite’s public Security & Privacy page provides an overview of our security and privacy framework, including ISO 27001 certification, PCI-DSS v4.0, TX-RAMP Level 1, GDPR and CCPA/CPRA compliance, AES-256 encryption, regional hosting options, SSO and MFA, role-based access controls, audit logs, web application firewall protection, and penetration testing.

For a formal IT or procurement review, we can also provide relevant due-diligence materials, including our Data Processing Agreement, subprocessor list, certification evidence, security questionnaire responses, and selected security policies or penetration-testing summaries. Confidential materials may require an NDA. Our security and data privacy team can also answer questions about data residency, access controls, incident response, retention, and third-party processing.

Hivebrite’s primary independent security certification is ISO 27001. Hivebrite is not SOC 2 certified, although some subprocessors maintain ISO 27001 and/or SOC 2 certifications.

Associations use community platforms to give members an ongoing reason to participate between renewals, meetings, and annual events. They create dedicated spaces for chapters, committees, and special interest groups; help members find peers, mentors, and professional opportunities; share news and resources; host discussions and events; and communicate through email, mobile, and in-platform notifications.
When evaluating an association member engagement platform, look for:
  • Groups and role-based permissions for chapters, committees, and volunteer leaders
  • Member directories and profiles with searchable expertise, location, and interests
  • Discussions, content, and resource libraries that make knowledge easy to find
  • Events and ticketing for in-person, virtual, and chapter activities
  • Mentoring and member matching to support professional development and networking
  • Membership and AMS integrations to keep member data and access up to date
  • Email, mobile, and push notifications for timely, targeted communication
  • Analytics and engagement insights to understand participation and demonstrate member value
  • Automations that support onboarding, re-engagement, and member journeys
Hivebrite brings these capabilities together in a branded community platform, with features for groups, discussions, directories, events, memberships, mentoring, mobile engagement, analytics, and AMS integrations. The right configuration depends on how your association is structured and which member experiences matter most.

It can be, if your association has enough structure and member activity to make a dedicated community platform worthwhile. Hivebrite is a strong fit for associations that need more than a mailing list or basic directory, such as structured chapters or groups, committee activity, events, member engagement, and a branded member experience.

The decision depends less on member count alone than on the complexity of your operations. If your association is coordinating chapters, committees, or multiple member programs across disconnected platforms, Hivebrite may provide a more organized way to manage those experiences. If your needs are limited to occasional announcements and a simple directory, a lighter platform may be a better fit.
You don’t need a large team, but you do need clear ownership. A focused launch with one person responsible for priorities, content, member communication, and basic moderation is more realistic than trying to activate every feature at once.

Hivebrite provides guided onboarding and training, and additional services can support configuration, data migration, community strategy, design, or integrations. However, your team still needs to provide the direction, build and manage the community, and keep members engaged.

If no one can take ownership of the community on an ongoing basis, it may be better to start with a smaller scope or wait until you have the capacity to manage it well.
